From Doubt to Done – A Writer’s Guide to Reaching Your Goals - Week 1: Defining Your Success as a Writer

What Does Success Look Like to You?

As writers, we’re bombarded with images of success - bestseller lists, six-figure book deals, massive fan followings. But what if success isn’t the same for everyone?

If you measure your success only by external validation, you may never feel truly accomplished. True success is personal. It’s about setting goals that matter to you and making steady progress toward them.

Redefining Success – What Really Matters?

Ask yourself:
Do I want to write full-time or keep it as a passion project?
Am I aiming for traditional publishing, self-publishing, or just finishing a book? What brings me joy in writing? Is it storytelling, connecting with readers, or the challenge of creating?

Your success doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It just has to feel fulfilling to you.

Action Steps

Write down your personal definition of success.
List three things that would make you feel accomplished as a writer.
Create a success statement: "I will feel successful when _________."
